PUBG being the most popular game in the world, with more than 100 million monthly players, and earning more than $146 million USD in revenue last month, making it the top-grossing mobile game, according to The Financial Times.
The earnings comes from in-game items and skins while the majority from the money spent in the game’s China-only rebrand, Game For Peace. According to estimates from Chinese brokerage Great Wall Securities, PUBG Mobile generated $76 million in revenue last month while Game For Peace generated $70 million.
In May, the publishers of PUBG Mobile (Tencent), rebranded the popular mobile game following the Chinese government cracking down on video game violence. Game For Peace is basically a skinned version of PUBG Mobile with a patriotic setting and less bloodshed. For example, when players die, they wave goodbye and handover their loot box before disappearing.
PUBG Mobile generated $76 million and Game For Peace earned another $70 million. Behind PUBG Mobile in earnings is Tencent’s Arena of Valor, which generated $125 million USD.
